Google Gemini is Google’s AI assistant. It works as a standalone app on the web and phones, replaces Google Assistant on Android, and is built into Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides and Drive so it can draft, summarize and analyze inside the tools you already use.
Paid Google AI plans unlock Google’s most capable Gemini model, longer context for big files, Deep Research reports, video generation with Veo, and extra Google One storage. Businesses get Gemini through Google Workspace and the Gemini Enterprise plans.

Our experience using Gemini
Gemini shines when the task touches your Google data: summarizing a long Gmail thread, drafting a reply, pulling figures from a Sheet or turning Drive files into a report. Deep Research is fast and thorough and exports straight to Google Docs.
On pure writing and complex reasoning, we found answers slightly less polished than Claude and ChatGPT. The bundled 5 TB of storage on AI Pro makes the subscription easy to justify if you already pay for Google One.
Who should use Google Gemini?
Choose Gemini if your work runs on Gmail, Google Docs and Android, if you want video generation without a separate tool, or if you were going to pay for Google storage anyway. Free is enough for casual questions; AI Pro is the sweet spot for most people.
Google Gemini vs alternatives
ChatGPT is the stronger all-rounder with more apps and agent features, and Claude is better for long writing and coding. If your company runs on Microsoft 365 rather than Google Workspace, Microsoft Copilot is the natural equivalent. For cited research answers, also compare Perplexity.
